Product alerts for commercial security systems
Discontinued parts, recalls, end-of-support notices and firmware warnings that affect commercial security systems in Alberta and BC. If one of these affects your building, we’ll help you plan the fix.
The quick answer
This page lists the product changes we think building owners and managers in Alberta and BC should know about: parts that are no longer sold, products that aren’t what they claim to be and notices that change how a system should be planned. Each alert says what changed, who’s affected and what to do. Newest first.
Current alerts
October 19, 2026 · Network cable (all brands)
CCA cable is being sold as copper in Canada and the USA: what it means for your install
- What changed
- Copper-clad aluminum (CCA) cable is being sold in Canada and the USA as if it were solid copper Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6A.
- Who’s affected
- Any building with cameras, door access, intercoms or Wi-Fi powered over network cable, especially new installs and recent add-ons.
- What to do
- Ask for solid copper in writing, and have suspect cable checked before it causes PoE and connection problems.
October 2026 · Kantech
Kantech has discontinued its P82WLS and P84WLS wireless fobs
- What changed
- Kantech’s ioProx wireless parts (P82WLS, P84WLS, their -TAG versions and the P700WLS receiver) are end of sale. The ioSmart wireless replacement isn’t compatible with them.
- Who’s affected
- Buildings using Kantech ioProx wireless fobs or tags, often for parkade gates and vehicle access.
- What to do
- Plan the change-over before spare parts run out: ioSmart, a staged swap or another way in.
How we handle an alert
When a maker stops selling a part or a problem turns up in the field, we check which systems we support are affected, tell the owners, and plan the fix around the building: what has to change now, what can wait and what can be reused. Alerts only cover facts we can check with the maker or the standard involved.
Not sure whether your system is affected? Send us the make and model, or ask for a site visit. Our System Rescue team also takes over systems other companies installed, and our help guides cover everyday admin tasks.

Product alert questions
What is a product alert?
A notice about a part or product that affects commercial security systems: an end of sale, a recall, the end of software support, a firmware warning or a product sold as something it isn’t.
How do I know if my system is affected?
Check the make and model on each alert. If you’re not sure, send us photos of the equipment labels or ask for a site visit and we’ll tell you.
Do I have to replace everything when a part is discontinued?
Usually not. Many systems can keep running while you plan a staged change-over, and we reuse equipment that’s still good.
Can you help even if you didn’t install our system?
Yes. We support and take over systems installed by other companies, and we regain admin access to systems the owner owns.
How often is this page updated?
Whenever there’s a new alert we can confirm. Each alert shows the date it was published.
