Business networks, cabling and Wi-Fi
Structured cabling, Wi-Fi and network equipment for commercial buildings, built to carry everything from your office to your security systems. Installed and supported by Hightower across Canada and the USA.
Updated
Network services
The cabling and equipment every other system in your building runs on.
Structured cabling
Cat6 and fibre runs that are labelled and neatly routed, from a few new drops to a full building.
Business Wi-Fi
Coverage planned around your building, with staff and guest networks kept separate and secure.
Switches, routers and firewalls
Network equipment installed, configured and secured, so your systems stay connected and protected.
Networks for security systems
PoE switches that power cameras, card readers and intercoms over the network cable, on a network built for them.
Built for your security systems
Because we install the cameras, doors and intercoms too, we build the network to match.
Powers your cameras
One cable carries both power and video to each camera, which keeps installs cleaner and more reliable.
Reliable access and intercoms
Door readers, intercoms and parcel lockers stay online because the network under them is built properly.
Safe remote access
Set up so you can view and manage your systems from anywhere, without leaving them exposed.
Maintenance and service plans
Scheduled checks and firmware updates on switches, firewalls and Wi-Fi, so problems get caught early.
Networking brand: we install and fully support Ubiquiti UniFi gateways, PoE switches and Wi-Fi, managed alongside UniFi cameras and door access.
Cable brands we install
Solid copper and fibre from Belden, CommScope, Panduit and Hubbell. Never copper-clad aluminum (CCA).
Networks for your type of building
Every building needs something different from its network. Here’s where we focus for each.
How a project works
One team from the first walkthrough to years of support.
- 1Site walk
We look at cable pathways, comms rooms and where you need coverage.
- 2Design and quote
You get a cabling plan, equipment list and Wi-Fi layout, with a written quote.
- 3Install
We pull and terminate every run, then install and configure the equipment.
- 4Documentation and handover
Every run is labelled, and you get a clear map of your network.
- 5Ongoing support
Service plans, troubleshooting and expansions as your building grows.
Stuck with a system nobody will fix?
If your current provider stopped answering, we can clean up, repair or take over networks installed by other companies.
What affects the cost of network cabling and Wi-Fi
Every building is different, but these are the factors that move the price. After a site walk, you get a clear written quote.
Number of drops
Each network connection needs a cable run and termination.
Distance
Runs over 100 metres or between buildings need fibre, which costs more than Cat6.
Equipment
Switches, PoE switches, firewalls and Wi-Fi access points.
Wi-Fi coverage
Larger and more complex spaces need more access points.
Existing cleanup
Re-terminating, labelling and tidying an old comms room adds labour.
Questions to ask a network cabling company
The answers tell you whether you’ll be supported after the install.
- Will you support it after installation?
Ask who you’ll call when something breaks and how quickly they respond. We support everything we install.
- Will we get admin access and documentation?
You should own your system, with admin logins and a record of every device. We hand both over on every project.
- Which brands do you install, and why?
An installer who works with many brands can recommend what fits your building, not just what they sell.
- Will it work with our other systems?
Cameras, doors, intercoms and alarms work best when they’re planned together.
- What will it cost to run each year?
Ask about subscriptions, licences, monitoring and maintenance up front, so there are no surprises.

Network questions
How much does network cabling cost?
It depends mostly on the number of drops, the distances involved, and whether you need fibre or new equipment. After a site walk we provide a written quote.
When do we need fibre instead of Cat6?
Cat6 copper works for runs up to 100 metres. For longer distances, links between floors or buildings, and high-traffic backbones, fibre is the better choice.
Should our cameras be on the same network as our office?
We recommend keeping security systems on their own network, separate from office computers and guest Wi-Fi. It’s safer and keeps video from slowing everything else down.
Can you fix Wi-Fi dead spots?
Yes. We look at where coverage drops off and why, then add or move access points so the signal reaches where you need it.
Can you clean up a messy comms room?
Yes. We can re-terminate, re-route and label existing cabling and tidy up racks so the network is easier to manage and troubleshoot.
Can you take over a network another company installed?
Yes. We service, repair and take over existing networks, and can upgrade equipment that’s no longer supported.
Will our network handle remote video monitoring?
Monitoring needs steady upload speed so alerts and live video reach the monitoring team without delay. We check your internet upload, put cameras on their own network and add backup internet where the site needs it.
