Kantech has discontinued its P82WLS and P84WLS wireless fobs

Kantech has stopped making its legacy ioProx wireless transmitters, fobs and receivers. If your gates, parkade doors or overhead doors open with these fobs, here’s what it means and how Hightower can help across Alberta and BC.

The short answer

In 2025, Kantech issued an end-of-sale notice for its ioProx wireless line, including the P82WLS and P84WLS transmitters and the P700WLS receiver. Fobs and receivers already installed keep working, but once the remaining stock is gone, new ones can’t be ordered from Kantech. The replacement, Kantech ioSmart wireless, doesn’t work with the old fobs or receivers, so moving to it means replacing the receiver and the fobs together. Hightower can plan and install the change-over for you. Call 587-920-1610 (Alberta) or 236-473-1610 (BC).

What this means for your building

Your fobs still work today

The notice doesn’t switch anything off. Installed fobs and receivers keep working until they wear out, break or get lost.

New fobs are hard to find

New residents, new staff and lost fobs all need replacements, and the remaining stock is limited.

Be careful with secondhand stock

Fobs from third-party sellers may be used or returned units. Only buy from a source you trust.

The new line isn’t backward compatible

Kantech ioSmart fobs don’t work with the P700WLS receiver, and the old fobs don’t work with the new ioSmart receiver.

Your options

Every building is different. These are the paths we plan with owners and property managers.

Move to Kantech ioSmart wireless

A new ioSmart receiver and encrypted 2- or 4-button fobs with rolling-code security, connected to your Kantech controller. The natural choice if you’re staying on Kantech.

Switch over in stages

Where your controller has room, the new receiver can often be added beside the old one, so people swap fobs over time instead of all on one day. We check your controller first.

Look at other ways in

Plate recognition at the gate, phone-based access, long-range readers or a video intercom at the parkade entrance. See access control.

Keep it running for now

Not ready to change? We check your receiver and fobs, help you find reliable stock, and plan the switch before you run out.

Discontinued Kantech fob questions

Has Kantech discontinued the P82WLS and P84WLS?

Yes. Kantech issued an end-of-sale notice for its ioProx wireless line, including the P82WLS and P84WLS transmitters, their -TAG versions and the P700WLS receiver. Stock was sold only until it ran out.

Will our existing Kantech wireless fobs stop working?

No. The notice ends sales, not service. Fobs and receivers already installed keep working until they fail or are lost. The problem is replacing them.

What replaces the P82WLS and P84WLS?

Kantech’s replacement is its ioSmart wireless line: a new receiver and encrypted 2- and 4-button transmitters with rolling-code security, designed for gates, garage doors and panic alerts.

Do the new ioSmart fobs work with our P700WLS receiver?

No. The ioSmart fobs need the ioSmart receiver, and the old ioProx fobs won’t work with the new receiver. Switching means replacing the receiver and the fobs.

Can we switch everyone over gradually?

Often, yes. If your controller has room, the new receiver can be installed beside the old one so both sets of fobs work while people swap over. We check your system first.

Can you help if another company installed our Kantech system?

Yes. Through system rescue, we take over systems installed by other companies, regain admin access to the system you own, and plan the fob change-over.

How much does it cost to replace discontinued Kantech fobs?

It depends on how many fobs you need, how many gates or doors use them, and whether your controller needs changes. We look at the system and give you a written quote.
