Security systems for schools and campuses

Secure entrances, one-step lockdown, access control and cameras for schools, colleges, universities and daycares. Designed, installed and supported by Hightower across Canada and the USA.

Why schools and campuses need each system

What each system solves, and why it’s worth having.

Access control

Scheduled unlocks, staff-only doors and one-step lockdown give schools control of every entrance. Lost keys stop being a security risk, because credentials can be cancelled instantly.

More about access control

Security cameras

Cameras on entrances, halls, parking lots and bus loops help staff respond quickly and investigate incidents, with search tools that find the right footage fast. Remote video monitoring through our monitoring partner can watch campus cameras on evenings, weekends and school breaks.

Video intercom

A secure entrance means every visitor is seen and spoken to on video before the door unlocks. It’s one of the most effective safety upgrades a school can make.

More about video intercom

Parcel lockers

Secure lockers handle package and device pickup for staff and student residences without anyone needing to be on hand.

Intrusion alarms

Schools are busy in the evenings and on weekends. Area-based alarms protect the rest of the building while the gym or theatre is in use.

Networks

Classroom Wi-Fi and security devices both need a solid network, kept separate so one never slows down or exposes the other.

Built for every kind of school

From early learning centres to university campuses.

Public school divisions

Consistent systems across every school, managed centrally, with lockdown and reporting the division can rely on.

Private and charter schools

Secure entrances and visitor screening without making the school feel closed off.

Colleges and universities

Campus-wide access by building and schedule, cameras across grounds and parking, and student residence security.

Daycares and early learning centres

Controlled entry so only approved parents and staff get in, with a clear record of every pickup and drop-off.

Problems we solve in schools

The issues principals, facility managers and divisions call us about.

  • Visitors walking in without checking in at the office
  • Exterior doors propped open during the day
  • No quick way to lock every door at once
  • Lost keys and keys that never come back
  • Break-ins and vandalism after hours
  • Cameras that don’t cover parking lots and bus loops
  • Different systems at every school in a division

How a project works

You get a plan for secure entry, lockdown, cameras and alarms, with a written quote.

  3. 3

We schedule work for evenings, weekends and breaks so learning isn’t disrupted.

  4. 4
    Training and drills

We train staff on visitor entry, lockdown and the app, and help you test it.

  5. 5
    Ongoing support

Service plans, repairs and updates as your school or campus changes.

Stuck with a system nobody will fix?

We can take over, repair and document systems left behind by previous providers, so you know exactly what the building has.

School security questions

Can every door be locked at once in a lockdown?

Yes. Access control can lock all controlled doors with one action from the office, a panic button or an authorized phone, and unlock them again when it’s clear.

How does a secure entrance work?

Visitors press the intercom at the main door, staff see and speak with them on video, and only then unlock the door for them.

Can doors unlock on a schedule?

Yes. Doors can unlock and lock automatically for school hours, events and holidays, so nobody has to go around with keys.

Can you work outside school hours?

Yes. We plan installs for evenings, weekends and breaks to avoid disrupting classes.

Can a school division manage every school from one place?

Yes. Systems can be managed centrally across sites, with access and reports for each school.

Are there privacy rules for cameras in schools?

Yes. Privacy laws apply, so we keep cameras in appropriate areas like entrances, halls and parking, and plan placement and signage with those rules in mind.

Can you add remote video monitoring to our school?

Yes. We set up remote video monitoring on new or existing cameras for schools and campuses. A monitoring team watches alerts 24/7, warns people off through speakers and calls police or your contact when it’s a real threat.
