Video intercom systems for commercial buildings

See who’s at the door and let them in from your phone. Video intercoms for condos, offices and commercial buildings, installed and supported by Hightower across Canada and the USA.

Updated

Video intercom features

A front door that works for residents, staff, guests and couriers.

Answer and unlock from your phone

Visitors press the intercom and the call rings straight to a resident’s or tenant’s phone, with live video, from anywhere.

Visitor passes

Send guests a PIN or QR code that works for a set time, so nobody has to run downstairs to let them in.

Courier and delivery access

Give couriers controlled entry for drop-offs, with every delivery logged, so packages stop piling up outside.

Replace old buzzer intercoms

Upgrade aging phone-line and buzzer systems to modern video intercoms, often without the monthly phone line older systems need.

Connected to the rest of your building

The intercom is the front door to everything else we install.

Tied into access control

The intercom and your fob system share one set of doors and one list of residents or staff, so managing entry happens in one place.

Backed by your cameras

Match every intercom call and door release with camera footage, so you can see exactly who came in.

Works with parcel lockers

Let couriers in to drop packages straight into lockers, and residents get notified when something arrives.

Maintenance and service plans

Scheduled checks on intercom panels, door releases and connections, so the front door keeps working.

What affects the cost of a video intercom

Every building is different, but these are the factors that move the price. After a site walk, you get a clear written quote.

Number of entrances

Each entrance or gate needs its own intercom panel and door release.

Panel type

Touchscreen, keypad and audio-video panels have different costs and features.

Existing wiring

Reusing wiring from an old buzzer system can reduce installation time.

Subscriptions

Most cloud intercoms have a monthly or yearly subscription per building or suite.

Visitor and delivery features

Visitor passes, delivery access and parcel locker integration add setup.

Questions to ask a video intercom installer

The answers tell you whether you’ll be supported after the install.

  1. Will you support it after installation?

Ask who you’ll call when something breaks and how quickly they respond. We support everything we install.

  2. Will we get admin access and documentation?

You should own your system, with admin logins and a record of every device. We hand both over on every project.

  3. Which brands do you install, and why?

An installer who works with many brands can recommend what fits your building, not just what they sell.

  4. Will it work with our other systems?

Cameras, doors, intercoms and alarms work best when they’re planned together.

  5. What will it cost to run each year?

Ask about subscriptions, licences, monitoring and maintenance up front, so there are no surprises.

Video intercom questions

How much does a video intercom system cost?

It depends mostly on the number of entrances, the intercom model, and whether the building needs new wiring or can reuse what’s there. After a site walk we provide a written quote.

Do residents or tenants need a phone app?

Most modern intercoms use an app for video calls and unlocking, and many can also ring a regular phone number. We match the system to the people in your building.

Can you replace our old buzzer system?

Yes. We replace older phone-line and buzzer intercoms with video intercoms. Depending on the building, we can often reuse existing wiring, which we check during the site walk.

How do courier deliveries work?

Couriers get controlled access for drop-offs, and every entry is logged. With parcel lockers, packages go straight into a locker and the resident is notified.

Can visitors get a code instead of calling?

Yes. Residents or staff can send visitor passes with a PIN or QR code that only works for a set time.

Can you work on an intercom another company installed?

Yes. We service, repair and take over existing intercom systems, and can upgrade them when parts are no longer supported.

Can our entrances be watched after hours?

Yes. Cameras at the entrance can be added to remote video monitoring, so loitering, tailgating or a forced door after hours is seen and dealt with live. See video monitoring.
