How to add users and add, edit or delete cards in CDVI Centaur
Step-by-step help for the CDVI Centaur Administration Console on Windows, for property managers and system administrators.
The quick answer
Open the Centaur Administration Console, log in and check the status box says Comms OK. Right-click the person’s department under Users and click New User, enter their name, then add their card on the Cards tab with the family number and card number. Click Apply, then OK, and test the card. Changes made while it says Comms Off don’t reach the doors.

Log in and connect first
Open Administration Console (the desktop icon, or search for it in Windows).
Log in with your Logon ID and password.
In the tree on the left, expand Local Server > Sites > your site. You’ll see Users, Visitors, Unassigned Cards, Access Levels and more.
Check the status box at the bottom right. Comms OK (green) means you’re connected. If it says Comms Off (red), right-click your site name under Sites and click Connect.
Important: changes made while it shows Comms Off don’t reach the doors. If it won’t connect, call us.
Add a new user with a card
In the tree, click + beside Users to see the departments (for example Tenants or Contractors). Door access follows the department.
Right-click the department the person belongs in and click New User.
In User Properties, enter the First Name and Last Name. Leave the other fields as they are unless you need them. Click Apply.
Click the Cards tab, then New.
In Card Properties, enter the person’s name in Description, then the Family Number and Card Number (printed on the card or fob). Leave the other options as they are. Click OK.
The card now shows in the list. Click Apply, then OK.
Test the card at the doors before handing it out.
Add another card to a user
Expand Users and the department, then double-click the person’s name.
Click the Cards tab, then New.
Enter the Description, Family Number and Card Number, and click OK.
Click Apply, then OK. Test the card.
Change a user or card
Double-click the person’s name to open User Properties.
Change the name, department, or the Start Date and End Date at the top as needed.
To change a card: on the Cards tab, click the card once to highlight it, click Modify, make your changes and click OK.
Click Apply, then OK.
Delete a card
Double-click the person’s name to open User Properties.
Click the Cards tab.
Click the card once to highlight it, then click Delete.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click Apply, then OK. The card no longer works on any door.

If it didn’t work
Changes don’t work at the doors
The status box probably shows Comms Off. Connect first, then make the change again.
A new card doesn’t open a door
Check the person is in the right department, and that the family number and card number are correct.
I can’t log in
Call us. We confirm you manage the system, then get you access. We never publish passwords.
Rather we did it?
We’ll add users and cards, remove lost cards and keep your departments tidy, remotely where your system allows it, or on site.
Stuck with a system nobody will fix?
We repair and take over cameras, access control, intercoms and alarms installed by other companies, when your current provider has fallen short.
Questions
What’s a family number?
Part of the card’s number, printed on many cards and fobs along with the card number. Call us if you can’t find it.
Why does access follow the department?
In Centaur, doors and schedules are set for each department, so everyone in a department gets the same access.
Can you add cards for us remotely?
Often, yes, when the Centaur computer can be reached remotely and you give us permission. Otherwise we book a visit.
Our Centaur is old. What are the upgrade options?
We can plan a move to a newer system such as CDVI ATRIUM, often reusing cabling and some hardware. See CDVI.
