How to add, edit and delete devices and users in iVMS-4200
Step-by-step help for Hikvision iVMS-4200 client software on Windows, for administrators and security staff.

In iVMS-4200, go to Device Management, open the Device tab and click Add to add a recorder by IP address or Cloud P2P. To give someone their own login, open User Management (Account Management), click Add User, choose Administrator or Operator, set a strong password and tick only the permissions they need.

You need: an administrator login, and for adding a device either its address, port, user name and password, or its serial number and verification code.

Add a device
Go to the Device page (Device Management) > Device tab and click Add.
Choose the adding mode: IP/Domain (enter the name, address, port, user name and password) or Cloud P2P (log in, or enter the serial number and verification code).
Click Add (or Add and New to add another).
Edit or delete a device
- Edit: on the Device tab, click Edit Device (or the Operation icon > Edit Device Information), change the details and save.
- Delete: on the Device tab, tick the device or devices and click Delete.
Add a user
Open the User Management module (Account Management).
Click Add User.
Choose the user type: Administrator (all permissions, can change operators’ passwords and permissions) or Operator (no permissions until you tick them; can change only its own password and those of accounts it added).
Enter a user name and password and confirm it. Use at least 8 characters with upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols.
Tick the permissions this person needs, such as live view, playback or download. Click Save.
Edit or delete a user
- Edit: in User Management, click the user in the list to change their details or permissions. To change a password, select the user and click Change.
- Delete: select the user and click Delete User. The super user (the account created when the software was first set up) can’t be deleted.
iVMS-4200 holds up to 50 accounts. On older 2.x versions, the same steps are under Tool > Account Management.
If it didn’t work
The device won’t add
Check the address, port, user name and password, or the serial number and verification code.
The device shows offline
The recorder or the network may be down. Call us.
A user can’t do something
Tick that permission for their account, or make them an Administrator if they need full access.
Rather we did it?
