Gate access control for industrial and commercial yards

For yard, shop and facility managers in Alberta and BC who need to control and track who comes through the gate.

The quick answer

The short answer

Put the gate on your access control system, so staff, trucks and contractors open it with a fob, a code or their plate, on a schedule you set. Add an intercom for visitors and deliveries, and a camera on the lane so every entry is logged with video. Plan for the cold, snow and power cuts from the start.

Ways to open the gate

MethodGood for
Fob or card reader on a postStaff and regular contractors, with schedules and instant removal when someone leaves.
Keypad codesContractors and couriers who need short-term access; give each company its own code.
Licence plate recognitionCompany vehicles and regular trucks, hands-free, with a searchable record of every plate.
IntercomVisitors and deliveries, who call the office or a phone so staff can see them and open the gate remotely.
Phone or appManagers opening the gate remotely, or staff using their phone as a credential.

Staff, trucks, visitors and contractors

Give each group its own access level and schedule: staff during shifts, regular carriers during receiving hours, contractors only for the dates they’re booked. Inside the yard, the same system can limit and track access to restricted areas such as fuel, chemical or parts storage.

For yards with crews on site, a muster system can use the same badges to count who’s on site during an evacuation.

Working with your gate operator

The gate operator (the motor and its safety devices) is usually installed and serviced by a gate company. We connect it to access control, the intercom and cameras, and work with your gate company so the safety devices, loops and controls keep working as they should.

Built for Alberta and BC weather

Readers, keypads and intercoms at a gate face deep cold, ice, blowing snow and plough damage. We use equipment rated for outdoor use, mount it where drivers can reach it from the cab, protect posts from vehicles, and plan backup power so the gate behaves predictably in an outage. For sites with no power or network, see remote site security.

Cameras and the fence line

A camera on the gate lane records every vehicle, and a plate camera records every plate. Along the rest of the yard, monitored fences and remote video monitoring through our monitoring partner cover the hours when nobody’s there.

Questions

Can contractors get their own gate code?

Yes. Give each company its own code or credential, limited to the days and hours they’re booked, and remove it when the job ends.

Can the gate open for our trucks automatically?

Yes. Plate recognition can open the gate for registered vehicles, and every plate is recorded either way.

Can the office open the gate for a visitor?

Yes. An intercom at the gate calls the office or a phone, and staff can see the visitor and open the gate remotely.

Do you install the gate motor?

The gate operator is usually supplied and serviced by a gate company. We connect it to access control, intercom and cameras, and work with your gate company.

Can we see who came through the gate and when?

Yes. Every fob, code and plate entry is logged, and with a camera on the lane you can see the matching video.

Will it work in winter?

We use outdoor-rated readers, keypads and intercoms, mount them where drivers can reach them, and plan backup power for outages.

Do we get admin access?

Yes. We hand over admin access and full documentation on every project.
