Doors unlocking or locking at the wrong time? Check the schedule, holidays and clock

For property managers, building operators and front desk staff. Applies to any access control brand.

The quick answer

In short

Most doors that unlock early, stay unlocked or lock during business hours are following a schedule. The usual causes are a changed schedule, a holiday setting, or the system clock being wrong, especially after the daylight saving time change.

We’ll do it for you

We’ll check your schedules, holidays and clock and put them right, remotely where your system allows it, or on site.

Quick checks

  • Did it start after the daylight saving change in March or November?
  • Did it start after a holiday, or after a power outage?
  • Is it one door or many?
  • Did someone change a schedule recently?

Usual causes

The clock is wrong

The wrong system time or time zone, or daylight saving isn’t set to adjust automatically.

A holiday setting

A holiday wasn’t set, or was set on the wrong date, so doors follow the wrong hours.

A door left in manual unlock

Someone unlocked the door from the software or a keypad and it was never put back on its schedule.

The wrong schedule

A schedule is assigned to the wrong door, or was changed for one event and never changed back.

Admins change schedules in the access control software. See the guides for Kantech schedules and holidays, CDVI, Integra32, Inner Range, ICT and ButterflyMX.

Check your schedules when the clocks change

Check your door schedules the week daylight saving time changes, in March and November.

Questions

Why did my doors unlock an hour early?

Usually the daylight saving change: the system clock didn’t adjust, or adjusted twice. We set it to change automatically.

How do I set a holiday?

In your access control software’s holiday list. The steps depend on the brand; we can add the year’s holidays for you. For Kantech, see Kantech schedules and holidays.

Can you check our schedules remotely?

Often, yes, when the system is set up for remote access. Otherwise we book a visit.
